Drafting is about simplifying communication of complex ideas, and breaking them down into manageable steps. Instead of sticking to a strict method for every project, I adapt my drafting approach to fit the application. I consider how each page will be used in the process, and who will be using it.

A drawing package should have good flow and consistency so that it reads as a full story. Each drawing serves a different purpose in the process. For example, it’s important to show the cutting and drilling details for raw materials separate from the welding and assembly details, so that both drawings are clear and each step can be isolated.

I believe in modeling as much as possible – the mistakes made in the field are often the ones you don’t draw ahead of time. So I’m always downloading 3D components, testing fits in my designs, and truly making the documentation as realistic as possible
